Farley Post Office Building is the main United States Postal Service building in New York City. Built of stone in 1912 in the Beaux-Arts architectural style, the building is famous for bearing the inscription: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Formerly the General Post Office Building, it was officially renamed in 1982 as a monument and testament to the political career of the nation's 53rd Postmaster General. The Farley Post Office is home to "Operation Santa", made famous in the 1947 classic film Miracle on 34th Street. The building was designated a New York City Landmark in 1966 & added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. |
