Wildlife, floa and fauna, new group

Andy Rodker   December 06, 2016, 08:17 AM

Photos of flowers/plants and animals but, please, NO PETS! Nothing at all against them but there are other groups for them!! :o)

Sonja   January 13, 2017, 01:05 PM

Hey, I saw this incidently whilst on one of your pics... thought you look a triffle lonely in there.... ;o)

Andy Rodker   January 13, 2017, 07:48 PM

Less lonely now! Thanks Sonja. Do you want to add any photos here? Did I nor post any pics? Maybe I haven't yet worked out how, yet! Will investigate!

Andy Rodker   January 13, 2017, 07:53 PM

Ah I see, you have posted, Sonja! Many thanks

Sonja   January 16, 2017, 12:24 PM

Thanks! Well, the uploading works, no problem... just promotion seems a bit of a problem, no discrete and easy way to invite special fitting shots by people not contacts to any groups, no matter if the own or that of friends, just a mail-way to invite your contacts to join in general. And all our newer groups look alike, somehow that with the icon does not work to well. My orchid group is exactly like yours, standard pic with already 4 not very distinct little stickmen busts as ikon but only 2 two real members.

Andy Rodker   January 16, 2017, 12:46 PM

Also strange to see that I typed flora correctly in the title of the group as can be seen at the top right of this page but it has come as a heading spelt floa!!!
I hope these minor points and some more serious ones will be addressed soon!

Sonja   January 19, 2017, 12:07 PM

My group got no additional description header at all. It lets not add me one any more than an icon, claims I must fill in something I do not kow, some name shortcut before it saves the edited group....
So you got that description with the typo automatically generated the way we get our personal "about" page? Really fascinating.

Hello!
I'm here.
I was invited by Sonja and I'm happy to share my photos with you. I don't have a lot, but it's something ...
An important suggestion: Do you think to put an identifying photo on the group profile?
Best regards from Argentina. Gabriel

Andy Rodker   May 28, 2017, 10:26 AM

Thank you Gabriel. I thought I had replied in March, but maybe not.
You are very welcome. Doesn't matter how many or how few photos you want to post!
By the way I would like to put an identifying photo here; if I knew how to do it I would! Do you know?
Best wishes,
Andy

Hello, Andy!
Don't worry about the delay ....

I suppose putting a group avatar should be as simple as putting it in your personal account.
First and foremost, you must be a "group administrator" and then you must have a button that allows you to enter the group account.
Once there, you should look for some option that says "attach image to group profile"... (or something similar)
I hope I've been clear, with a little patience, I am convinced that you will get it.

A big hug.
Gabriel

Hi Gabriel.
Many thanks.
I replied to your message directly by email, not realising that it was posted here. Please tell me if you don't get it. I did see that the email address was from 23.hq and as I really don't have a clue how these things go, made me realise belatedly that you possibly hadn't intended to send me a private email!
I will post my reply here if you think it is OK to do so (I have kept a copy) but I didn't intend it for general publication. Please let me know!!
Many thanks and best wishes,
Andy

I responded to your message where you wanted to know how to put an avatar in the group ...
am I right?

I did not receive any email....... don't worry.

Andy Rodker   May 28, 2017, 11:12 PM

So where did my reply to your reply go! OK. I will re-post here!

Andy Rodker   May 28, 2017, 11:13 PM

Thanks Gabriel.
I see this reply goes to team@23 – so it’s not private?? Are you on the 23 team??? I don’t know who else apart from you will get this. Never mind; the point is this:
I have no wish to be an administrator but I do wish to add a group avatar. I hope there is a way!
When I created the group I was a 23 hq virgin and so didn’t really know what I was doing. I still don’t!!
But I don’t recall there being any invitation or procedure to be an administrator for my own new group! I went back into it earlier today and had a look and could find nothing about being an administrator anywhere at all! If you know – or know someone who knows – by all means please tell me! Maybe one of the other group contributors knows how to become an administrator and where to find the correct page for this! But, as I said, I could do without the hassle of being an administrator but will become one in order to add a group avatar!
Have a good week and all best wishes,
Andy

Andy,

go to your group front page, right column.... just below "ïnvite" which you can see also on most groups of others, you should be able to read "change group settings" if that is your group, nothing about being an admin, just that little unemphased litte line. Klick that and you are in the menue.

First, you need to make up a short name, that is mandatory or changes won't take place. I had no end of trouble with that part myself until Fizgig helped me to understand. "Wildlife will probaply be taken as there is already an old group with no traffic called this. So think of something else that sort of fits, like "WFF"or "FloraFauna" and type it in.

Next you need to upload your icon. The icon should be prepared and the apropriate square measurements on your harddrive. Otherwise this works just like the standard uploader, all easy.

Finally press "Save basic settings" below and do your captcha extra carefully as not to have to repeat the whole thing. ;o)

That should be it.

Andy Rodker   May 29, 2017, 03:27 PM

Seems to make sense. Thank you Sonia.
Except that I have never 'prepared an icon' in my life. I suppose I need to try and do this but I don't even know where to begin with this! Again I'm very busy and this will take me time with many mistakes so it will have to wait!

Look for a pic of yours that looks especially nice and recognizable in the smal square icon preview, or would do so if the square is moved of-center or a closer crop. Crop it exactly square to exactly the outlines you prefer. Nearly any photo-software can do an automated square for cropping, even the free "Paint" that comes with the windows.

Anyway it should be cropped to a square and safed somewhere on your harddrive where you find it easyly. I am not sure if on this site you even need to upload it pre-shrunk to the smal size of 50x50 pixel. Fizgig told me to do so and I had indeed one shrunk down before he did say so, although my big problem seemed to come from that mysterious short name field that must be filled, so I used my tiny pic also when it worked. It did never show up in the stream, just went straight to being the icon after uploading.
