My point is that indeed patriarchy out-competed the other arrangements as you said. And that this became the natural for us. The way I understand it is that patriarchy was developed from a couple key concepts. First concept: beta males basically colluded against alpha males and decided their needed to be some way of more evenly allocating females to males. At some point betas realized they greatly outnumbered alphas and leveraged this. Second concept: (and this one W.F. Price can attest to!) females need help with gathering resources while they have a baby, and a man is a better resource gatherer than, say, ol’ grandma. So males had to agree to be providers for their allocated female(s). I don’t think any of the above happens necessarily. Other situations can arise, such as bigamy. But bigamy leaves one male providing from multiple females while disenfranchising the major of males. That is a volatile social structure. Another direction to take is matriarchy, but the problem here is the males become rather shiftless and destructive (see urban ghetto culture for an example). This is why I don’t consider patriarchy an instinct or necessarily a natural (i.e. primordial) order. It certainly involves some instincts but these can have a variety of outcomes. But wherever it became established in prehistoric settlements these settlements grew and bulldozed their less-stable neighbors. Eventually they became civilizations. And this is why the end result of Feminism is the collapse of Western civilization, which ironically could be replaced by the extremely patriarchal Islamic Caliphate (unless they too are infiltrated). Although the first part makes me uncomfortable (and may happen to be an excuse for feminism). Feminism may argument that a matriarchy may be the natural state.
