Around my neck of the woods, that is not the reality. Kids here hook up because they really don’t know any better. Many are from single parent homes, some of which are created by divorce while many are simply “kids” having kids themselves. (that is, there are a good number of single mother families around here that never involved marriage or even a father in the home.) These kids run the streets because their parents don’t care, or prefer that they are left in peace while their children cause all kinds of issues for the neighborhood. Now, I’m not saying it is the majority of parents by any leap of my imagination, but it is plenty to be causing some serious issues. Police presence has been stepped up around town to keep trouble down, and like I said there are several initiatives to start block watch groups to protect each others property. What really sucks is that things were turning around here until the economy dropped out a few years back. The housing market is literally killing this place as I see more homes sitting empty and in foreclosure. The city is actively starting to claim these properties and knock the houses down because they are in such bad shape that even when people offer to buy them, the city is concerned that the property is too far gone to be salvaged. Literally people have gone to city meetings to BUY a home and been turned down. Many home owners are turning to renting, and many empty homes are being turned into section 8 housing (government assisted). With that comes more single parent families and often more troubled kids.
