Education in the United States has changed over the years and not for the better. It used to be, the United States had one of the best educational program and was ranked first in the world for graduation rate. Now, the U.S. has dropped in rank to have one of the lower graduation rates amongst its peers of developed countries.

There are many possible reasons for this gap in education. In recent years, such subjects as social studies and science have been put on the backburner in order for school districts to focus on reading and math. National standards and a push for standardized student achievement might be causing educators to "teach to the test" rather than focus on each individual students' educational needs. Class sizes have also grown with dwindling resources and funding for the school systems.

Regardless of the reason why this is happening, the statistics prove that something is lacking in the United State's education system. There is hope, however, for students and parents alike. Students who receive some type of help from a third party are more likely to be successful in school. Parents who enroll their students in phonics programs or math tutoring are giving their children the tools necessary to meet the standards set on a national level. Parents who simply read with their children are giving their children an edge over other students. Third party resources can help bridge the gap in the United States' educational system.
