Mahonia. A cultivated type of Barberry. Oregon Grape is close relative.
If it's growing wild in the woods, it's Barberry or Oregon Grape.

Thanks for the ID, it was on the street I think.

These are the flowers, Oregon Grape would be hard to miss (fruiting).

Like a lot of my pictures, I'll have to go back and have another look.
