Much better, the form really pops out.

Without visible background it looks a bit like aout of a catalogue or such a thing.

One thing I have rediscovered is the importance of the principles of photography. No matter what wonderful aids there are in the modern camera the correct exposure is of fundamental importance. Forget about point and press, take advantage of the camera's through-the-lens metering and set your own parameters.

I am always struggling with the correct exposure. I still have a simple point and shoot camera which does not exactly help either in that respect.

The exposure of this picture looks very well to me. Did you cut out the picture?

However simple the camera may be, if you are able to point the camera at the part of the image you are most interested in and then lock the exposure to that setting before making the actual exposure, you will find this helpful. I have a point and press camera not a DSLR. The goblet was placed in a small light tent with a black lining and the image cropped as displayed.
