The natural element that I most often inter-meditate with is water—what Tibetans call the goddess Mamaki. One recent morning I sat by a small waterfall in the woods near my house, listening to the muffled roar of water and letting my thoughts and sensations wash away. I could hardly remember my name—not that I needed it at that moment. Like a mantra or visualization or even breathing exercise, it had become redundant, for the water was meditating for me—regular as waves or cradle-rocking, soothing the knots in my chakras and inner energy channels—comforting, incessant, and effortless.
