What a nice place!!!! Can you tell me something about it?? pleeeaasseee??? :D
This is an area of environmental protection (Área de Proteção Ambiental), a state protected nature reserve.
This place is the "Serra da Cantareira", cantareira comes from cântaro, which is an old portuguese word for "jar", therefore it would be something like "Jars Hills". In 18th century this area used to be a place where travelers would come by to fill their jars up with fresh water.
The area of this park is surrounded by cities: São Paulo, Guarulhos and Mairiporã. You can see the dark green are on this map:

There are four areas open to public visit: Pedra Grande (Large Rock), Engordador ([cattle] raiser), Águas Claras (clear waters) and Cabuçu (Cabussu, scientific name of a very common tree in this forest). This one and the waterfall shot were taken at Cabuçu area.
you know, in Mexico we use the word Cántaro for the same thing and use the cantaro for the same purpose :))
..there is a frase: ... y se fué el cántaro al agua! ;)
