Interesting facts: The iris got its name from the Greek goddess "Iris", the goddess of the rainbow. The word "iris" is Greek for "rainbow".
Iris is the national flower of France and has been used for the insignia and emblem of France.
The versicolor iris is the provincial flower of Quebec, Canada. (1)
Some meanings of the iris are "hope", "wisdom", "valor", and "eloquence".
Unique to the country of Jordan is an iris that has a black color. To the Jordan people, the black iris symbolizes growth and renewal. (2)
