Stewart Island and the Rakuria track. A prime example of a self-contained ecosystem. The island is basically uninhabited except for oban, pop 300.
The track is a 3 day event through the mud and a good introduction to the 10-12 day track which is more mud. The rakuria track is extensively boardwalked. The track is quite green and there is a large amount of variety amongst the foilage.
