Tolles Bild.
johna January 13, 2010, 06:07 PM
No it is not a saltfield it's a frozen lake I think , it's not my picture. Thanks for the comment.

johna January 14, 2010, 08:39 PM
My german is not so good that I can fully understand your comment. But thanks for the reaction.
Waldi January 20, 2010, 11:51 PM

(Johna, I am telling them a bit about the image and ask them to use English.)

Johna, please change the rights of the image from "All rights reserved" to "Creative Commons: Attribution-ShareAlike License" as the original. I am sure our friend nachbarnebenan will not sue you, but it makes the life easier for other people, now that your version is getting famous. ;-)

Thanks Rolf.

From nachbarnebenan in the forum.meetthegimp.org: "Location is here in Leipzig, not far from where I live. It's an old open pit lignite mine filled up in the 70th to create a lake and frozen over. The photo shows the opposite (west-side) shore with a large snow-covered rock. I'm not sure if this will work: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.301136&lon=12.250048&zoom=18&layers=B000FTF "

I have added geo tags.

If I have noticed this is the other host the starting point, yes? How do we get this picture? I'll just have a few years ago trying to image processing times when I wanted to rework an old photograph. I wei? not what program I used, it was with a friend, the photographer. I am so totally not get along with each click, the picture looked worse and more distorted, especially since I can not speak English. Therefore, w? Rde interest me burning, how to get from one image to the n? Chsten. Since I'm going to grow anyway in n? Chster time finally a digital camera, I can purchase an equal to me right software.

ruth May 12, 2010, 06:29 PM
Is there a step by step guide on how to get this picture from the other one?
johna May 13, 2010, 11:56 AM
There is no step by step guide for this picture.
vibla May 14, 2010, 08:59 AM
Can you give hints of how to make that? The effect is astonishing! Did you use some special software for that? To my camera I buyed a expensive photo software . She can repair dark or bright fotos and delete red eyes and look for people smiling and make the heaven nice blue. More then i need. But she can never do that. What you use? Were you learn it?
johna May 14, 2010, 07:08 PM
I used the free software gimp and watch all the shows at http://meetthegimp.org/category/gimp-video-tutorial/ where Rolf Steinort explains on a verry understandable way how to use this program.
You can download this program on http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
marfa May 15, 2010, 12:29 AM
I suggest never download progam or anything on the net. It is forbidden and will give you virus. Go to a shop and buy it as normal people do. Beside illegal the more people download and not pay the more expensive it become.
John, please not give such foul advise.
Rolf Steinort May 15, 2010, 10:01 AM
marfa, you should either read up on the concept of Open Source and Free Software (which is powering a whole lot of the Internet and much more) or sit back and enjoy the handful of $ you got from the software industry to distribute such false information.

GIMP is distributed under the GNU Public License (GPL). So it is perfectly legal to distribute for free. And you can be sure that the copies on the original server are checked at least as careful against malware as any commercial product. There were some commercial CDs out with a virus on board, but I never heard that about Free Software from the original source.

And if you prefer to buy your software, I am offering you this once in a time opportunity: For 799.98€ I'll send you

- a CD containing GIMP for Windows, a set of the most important plugins and the complete manual in HTML

- the complete source code for GIMP on the CD

- the complete text of the license

- a DVD with the Meet the GIMP videos #1 to #46 in a professionally made box compiled by the Southend on Sea Linux User Group

and finally

- an autographed DVD with the episodes #47 to #140.

Of course all is legal and you'll get an invoice.

Shipping costs depend on where you live, you pay what I have to pay.

;-)

Seth Major May 15, 2010, 01:31 PM
I would like know what happen if she really pay you ;-) Would be difficult to explain to the tax office...
But i would like to have that autographed dvd too. Can you make a new contest with it as prize?
Sadly the fud going on is very bad. Industry inventes a lot of money making people believe everything is illegal. Sadly it seems to work with many. Even at work i had this problem.
riccardo May 18, 2010, 12:47 PM
Thats a really cool photo. It nearly seems like woods on a model train magnified. As if made from plastics. It has a really good mood and light.
Alex May 19, 2010, 10:44 AM
@Johna
Rolf has used your photos in his last show. Maybe you could persuade him to make a howto for his next show? I like the improvement you made.
peach May 19, 2010, 10:22 PM
A very beautiful landscape! Did you do this digital or real and scanned? And what camera and film you use? How long you work on the edit?
casi May 27, 2010, 02:03 PM
How long did you work on this? Must be many hours.
johna May 30, 2010, 11:53 AM
I,m just back from a vacation therefore this late response.
riccardo thanks for your comments.
Alex, peach and casi i'l try to explane how i did the edit.
It take's a few minutes.
First of all you take the original photo of nachbarnebenan

http://www.23hq.com/nachbarnebenan/photo/5274119

make three copy's.

first copy: set the layer mode to screen, opacity to 70 %,
apply a white layer mask and paint the water with black.

second copy: use a lightbleu forecolor an a white backcolor
use the blend tool to fil the sky, start at the top, stop just below the top off the trees. aply a transparant layer mask.

third copy: use the treshold tool to make a black/white image off this copy, paint all black exept the sky, copy and past it to the layer mask of the second copy, make the third copy invisible.

Make a new layer from visible and you ready.

rumais June 15, 2010, 10:26 AM
Which camera and lens were that taken? There is none further informations.
Ulmar Wüsthoff July 15, 2010, 03:57 PM
This is a exhibition in Germany Duisburg train stop what show this landscape with others. I believe down is little snipped off. The link is not right, printed 32hq not 23hq.
Edward July 21, 2010, 10:12 AM

Andreas Helmmann October 02, 2010, 07:45 AM
