A picture taken out of my office window. While choosing a photo for this assignment, I started thinking about what makes a picture that is improved by being turned into black & white. Any thoughts on that?

I've found that quite often, architectural photos (especially of older buildings) are much improved by being turned into black and white. Also photos that are more textural than colorful are improved when the color no longer distracts from the texture.

By the way, that cloud at the top looks like a dragon. :-)

I agree with Beezum88. As soon as the important elements are defined by contrasting colours, the B&W version is often disappointing. The same is true when vivid colours are important, e.g. neon lights at night.
To emphasize detailed texture B&W is great. That explains why old buildings are nice in B&W.
