the necks!!on the top of the list for bands i've wanted to see live (and doubted i ever would). they are three very accomplished studio musicians out of australia that get together a couple times a year to play together. my friend mikelundgren gave me a cd of theirs, "sex", in the 90's - an hour-long, trancey yet heavy piece that works on both a subconscious level (have had it on repeat for hours at a time and still hearing new things) and a very conscious level.
the truly amazing thing about this band is that EVERY SONG is new! no rehearsal, no sheets, no nothing. just an organic interplay between the musicians. this show consisted of two sets, and each was an hour long, and, yes, each set consisted of one piece. it is not the marathon it sounds - it actually comes off like a musical movie, and one hour is short for a movie... this is their first sojurn to the u.s, and the bass player said they have a six-month visa, so they may be back around. for you europeans, check necks.com - think they're doing a tour over there. they are simply not an experience to be missed. each show is recorded and issued as a cd (which may well mean 2 cds from this night), so if you can't catch 'em, i heartily recommend doing some research and picking a couple up. on a side note re the pics, have found a way to get 'real pics' uploaded!!! not easy, and not a perfect solution, but looks like it works. shoot. transfer to epson p-3000. move to olpc. upload via wireless in the nifty french bakery 'la marjolaine' in my nabe. downsides - time....... cheers |
