on a completely related/unrelated note, just finished a book called 'human smoke' by nicholson baker, in which he writes the history of the buildup to wwII and the first couple years of it(ending the book, as he says, while most of the participants were still alive), not from a historical perspective, but taken from the daily accounts in newspapers, diaries, letters, etc. a fascinating and easily digestible read, and really brought home to me the parallels to our time now
and unrelated too, don't know why the subject reminds of this book i read years ago in spanish in México, maybe the WWII reference, Victor L. Franks' study on Logotherapy and his anecdotes in concentration camps
