As eyes around the world once again turn to Apple to hear about the latest products that are set to hit the market, it is a good time to take a look back at the evolution of its computing line over the years. While we have come to expect the latest capabilities and features in all of our devices, it is important to understand the large strides taken in the last decade. Macbook has changed the way we communicate with the world and get our work done on a daily basis.

In January 2006 Steve Jobs, then head of Apple, introduced the original 15-inch MacBook Pro and the larger 17-inch version followed shortly after. Tremendous upgrades in processing power and storage appealed to professionals and casual users alike. A few months later the MacBook debuted, giving consumers a more affordable laptop option and quickly became the best selling Mac in history by far.

The world’s thinnest notebook, MacBook Air, was launched at the start of 2008 and was produced using a single sheet of aluminum in a unibody casing. Apple’s unibody structure was then adopted by MacBook Pro in October 2008, leading to easy portability, sleeker style and a lightweight design. A year later the unibody Macbook was announced, and it came with faster DDR3 memory, a multi-touch trackpad, LED-backlit display and a seven-hour battery life.

Each new model in Apple’s notebook line brings improvements in graphics, speed, productivity and functionality. As the company moves forward into the future, it will be exciting to see what Apple has in store for consumers next.
