Caen Burn
Its a gold burn but is not like the normal gold burns in the area. It produces small gold flakes well worn in the burn here and exactly the same size and shape two miles upstream. The burn is also entirely different in composition to all the other burns in the Strath of Kildonan. The rocks here are entirely different to all the other burns. The orange coloured rocks are granite and reddish tones ones old red sandstone. This heap of rough rock and sand has not been dumped here by some flytipping builder but is the result of a river spate in October 2006.In fact walking up the river I came upon spectacular evidence of the fury and power of this spate. Whole sections of the burn in narrow gorges was stripped bare of any vegetation or loose rock on the gorge sides plus the gravel had gone plus any boulders and for hundreds of yards was a completly clear bare bottom to the burn. |
