![]() Towton Moor War Memorial.
The site of the biggest bloodiest battle of armoured men in English history when a combined armys of over 80,000 fully armoured Knights clashed and killed for over 10 hours on Palm Sunday 1415 in the War of the Roses. The neumonic for the colours of the rainbow comes from this very field. Richard of York gave battle in vain . Will describe the battles progess on the other pictures of the battlefield. In the nearby village of Saxon one of the fallen Lord Dacre is buried in a totally unique grave in his armour atop his horse. You will note that flowers are still put at this memorial even thought this event happened many centurys ago, but reflects the total utter barbaric loss of life that occured at this location . |
