The Mennock Gold River Dumfriesshire.
This stretch was the richest in gold that the panners in 1500 left behind. Look at someones work with all the boulders on the right. Lumps of black Clogau Shale can be found in the river in this stretch giving credance to why gold nuggets with quartz up to 8gram found downstream from here . Plus also a panner nicked all the pile of Clogau Shale I had unearthed on to the bank to examine at night. He told me two weeks later he had taken them home and crushed them and then panned it. To reveal lots of golddust!!!!! The Clogau Shale occurance entering the river has not been found in this stretch. The nuggets found here and some gold can be seen in Edinburgh Museum. |
