Yes, poplar leaves in the water ... experimentally with flash (which I don't like usually) :D

Hahaha... but the flash brings you the deep black background. ;-)
Have you ever tried a diffuser on the flash?

No, never! But I'm not sure I can use this with my small camera

You can try a sheet of paper or a half of a table-tennis-ball. I tried a TT-ball. It makes the highlights much softer. Especially on closeups.
