Lundhags is heading out on the next section; a short paddle , 60 km of trekking followed by a long mtb ride. It will be a really tough section. Many teams have gathered in this assistance area. The teams have to leave before 21.00 local time so the situation at the transition area is described as rock n roll at the moment. As many teams are leaving now there is a risk that there will be a queue on the climbing activity. NIKE is still in the lead, as they have visited all checkpoints (including bonus check points). But they seem to be very tired and they had a slow transition of 1h and 20 minutes (w/o any sleep!) ORION managed to get some short sleep as they were very fast with the gears in the transition. BUFF is also doing good. Lundhags made an excellent transition (only 25 minutes). The reports say they look strong but they are also starting to get tired. The top teams will now be forced to exclude some bonus checkpoints to manage the cutoff times. Update 21.23 local time: The top 6 teams left the TA at the same time, just before 9pm. Now the race starts for real... |
