COURSE No. CE0006 - Conduits, Culverts and Pipes http://engineerce.com/summary-detail.php?c_id=5 PDH : 5 This manual provides the user with an extensive overview of conduits, culverts and pipe characteristics and evaluates the design process with reference to material selection, loading requirements and installation constraints. The material provided in the manual also provides detailed guidance on the design and construction of conduits, culverts and pipes with numerous examples being presented for trench/embankment earth loadings, highway, railroad and surface concentrated loadings and internal/external fluid pressures. An array of commonly used pipe materials is discussed throughout the manual, including, cast-in-place and pre-cast reinforced concrete pipes, plastic, corrugated metal and iron & steel pipes. Analysis methodology and recommendations for loadings, joint restraints and product life cycles are presented in a simple format for the designer’s benefit. In addition, a non-technical discussion on pipe jacking, material recommendations and practices is provided in the latter part of the manual to familiarize the user with current construction techniques.
