Kritinia - Venetian castle of the XVI century. The fort was built by the Knights of the Order of St. John, and this place was chosen precisely because of the fact that it offers a comprehensive overview of the sea, and it makes it easy to control the opponent. In 1480, when the island tried to seize the Ottoman Turks, here 100 thousand Turkish soldiers were sent. Despite the fact that the number of knight troops was much less in that battle they were able to defend the island, and the Turks were forced to retreat. In that battle fortress has suffered a lot of damage, but the Knights did not waste time on its restructuring, and it was decided to do it later. Today the castle is almost destroyed and preserved only the walls, but the entrance is still visible emblems of two Grand Masters, Rhodes ruled in that era.
