What are Guineas?
From time to time, I have had friends (mainly "city folk") ask me about Guineas. You, too, probably have never heard of or seen a guinea. I sure hadn't had the pleasure of having guineas since we moved out to "the country" over 10 years ago. Guineas are pretty fun to watch, and are really smart. They are like watch dogs, if someone or something (a snake, a fox, a raccoon, etc.) comes on our property that isn't supposed to be there, they will make a racket. They will be so loud it's almost deafening. Guineas are very territorial, and if raised on your property they will stick around, even though they have the ability to fly up into the trees (and certainly up and over a fence). Guineas eat ticks, bugs, weed seeds from the pasture, and love to run around in a big group. Here is a photo of a few of the guineas that roam our property.
