Sitting at my computer by the window, I noticed this wasp hanging around the verandah yesterday morning. Several times I went outside to try to get a better look at it because I haven't seen one like this before. It has always gone by the time I appeared though. Later in the day my eye was suddenly drawn to a large black blob on the edge of the verandah roof. It moved and I realised it was a huge spider (by domestic standards). I went out to see and found my mystery wasp entangled in a web with Little and Large spiders getting their fangs into it. There was a bit of a struggle, the wasp then went still and Large attacked Little. Little immediately dropped from the roof on a thread of silk and Large went back into her hole. I'm afraid I then stole the wasp for identification so both spiders went without dinner.
