Hayles North Quay
The construction on North Quay is a major milestone in the £14.2 million redevelopment of the town's harbour and is believed to be the first flood protection scheme in Cornwall specifically designed to combat higher seas.
The first of a series of four-metre-high flood protection walls which will help protect Hayle from rising sea levels was slotted into place yesterday. The wall will be about 1,900ft (580m) long and 13ft (4m) high and will protect the development during high tides. The work will raise the development areas above the flood level and a new highway will connect to the site of a proposed marine business park on North Quay. A bid to transform a former industrial hub of West Cornwall has taken a major step forward.
