 The invitation to a celebration is the first step. Letters (now emails too) are sent to people we know.
 Decorating the place of celebration makes for the speciality of the occasion. This is sometimes done by putting multicoloured flags all around.
 Rangoli is a pattern made out of colours on the floor for auspicious reasons.
 Several homes perform havans by lighting fire and chanting mantras to please their ancestors and other higher beings. People sit cross-legged and barefoot around the fire.
 Dancing with joy and letting themselves immerse into the moment makes for the good wishes and blessings to the host.
