Towanroath pumping engine house visible. This kept the sea water pumped out of the tin mines that extended far out to sea here. The average life expectancy of the tin miners was similar to tat of miners' very cheap lives in parts of the world today.

Thank you, Fizgig. The heyday of Cornish tin mining was in the second half of the1 8th century and first half of the 19th. Time enough for the scars to have healed but, yes, the scene would have been one of devastation in times past.

Of course sad stuff can be nice too! So this sujet would look a bit out of place in a childs bedroom or breakfast nook -- but so what?
I love the light spot although it's arguably blown out a triffle, as it is located right above the sad mine ruin making it more visible. The great Turner himself would probaply have painted the scene exactly capturing this moment. :o)
