Wild tulips.
Only open on the hottest of days with the sun at its highest. Only on well drained scree slopes and far from any shade - so uncomfortable to take photos but they are so beautiful it is worth it!

How nice! Beautiful Tulipa silverstris in the wild! Now I understand why they never where quite the success in my yard. In summer the area is classed as "mediterran climate" but our springs are wet and my pot as well as the lawn are level of course and all morning everything stands in the late lifting fog. My wild crocus mixes and overtly cultivated Greigii and Kaufmann's Tulips usually do rather okay as long they are not to tall for the wind between the buildings, but the expensive "close to natural hardy tulips" wont even in good years.

I have heard of wild Tulips, but these take the cake. Beautiful !

Thank you Sonja.
Yes I think you have the answer. They must be very fussy with regards to site!

Andy -- mine had been of course certified cultivars from a package with a cartonboard requrement list on the meshbag, very close in looks to the western subspecies of Tulipa silvestris, yet supposed to be just like a Tulipa tarda in the listed requrements, just somewhat taller and a warmer hue without white tips. I bought them twice, they never performed.
One should hope a company selling them without recomendation for trying only above the common fogline of the lake and in the rockgarden facing south tries it out before how they do in the conditions of the city where the store is. The only ones I ever saw in bloom (with a label, so I was inspired to buy them myself as well) was at the educational herbgarden up on the Hoechsten slope. :o(
Of course I am the type of yard owner just buying anything at least once that is claiming it's a flower cultivar close to wild looks or an older type of vegetable, and they just market the stuff to people like me not asking for the climate. LOL

Sonja, it's just bad luck! I used to buy seed and seedlings from reputable garden centres and they failed, ... who knows why. Myriad reasons!
I have also bought seedlings from a corner shop where they had no idea ... and rescued them and had plants from them for many years. More luck then judgement I think!

Thank you Laura.
Sorry for late reply.
I've been without the internet for a week. Lots of catching up to do and I haven't even looked at 23 yet, apart from this reply!
