Men-an Tol (Holed stone).
Unknown purpose but certainly pre-historic.
Near Lanyon Farm, Madron Parish, West Penwith, Cornwall.

I like pencil-sharpener, Laura! Maybe I could have given a better idea of scale! Sick people were passed through the hole in the middle ages in an attempt to cure them.

If it was modern I'd say its just a most intriguing looking piece of land art, but back then they sure had to have better reasons than the major having an etat for fine art to further tourism and needing a really weird project. An Observatory to wait for a certain position of the sunset for starting a task or celebration, or some kind of re-birthing by a durable hard stone for initiations into the clan's old boys club perhaps? :o)

Fun to speculate what it could've been for... Have to marvel at the ability & skill to carve out such hard stones.

Anyway, that view along the alignment would make a nice addition to the Perspective group

Truly the work of a master carver, but wondering about his inspiration.
