As far as I know Time Machine is only working with external hard drives, not with NFS-shares.
And of course you need to buy Leopard instead of using Tiger. :-)

Ah, right. But surely there'll be some third-party backup solutions for OS X? Or is the absence of those the reason for the hype around Time Machine?

But yeah, the cost is a disadvantage of course, I still find it hard to believe I got my whole operating system and all those applications free of charge :)
