The Houses of Parliament. The River Thames was at its highest on this particular evening, almost lapping against the famous terrace where members of parliament congregate, largely to gossip!

I've been in and sat on a house of Lords and a Commons session. The Lords felt like literally nothing was occuring, and the commons was actually pretty decent apart from one guy who was asking an impossible question on vegetable farmers in Sussex without an actual point. Oh and it smells.

Looks much sleeker with the tide high.

Yes, Thames mud is not that attractive a sight, so better when it's covered with water!

London is a great city, I was there for a couple of days about seven years ago.
And nothing was stolen from me, unlike last week in Madrid ;-)

@HAL-9000: really sorry to hear of your Madrid experience. Once had a camera stolen from a backpack on the Paris metro, so all cities have their problems in that respect. Actually I've never been robbed in London, but I don't think that means it's a safer city: just that I've been lucky.

@StevieB: Yeah, I could have happened in any larger city... I should have been more careful. My wallet was stolen in the metro on the way from the airport to the place where I was going to stay (money, passport, driver's license, credit card etc. all gone). Luckily, I was traveling with friends who could help me out.

@HAL-9000: that kind of thing is so disruptive: it really makes me angry that people should be so careless about the misery they cause for others. :(
