Probably built during the reign of Claudius (41-54 C.E.), it is likely the theater described in the New Testament where Paul of Tarsus attempted to preach "The Word" to the Ephesians, only to be shouted down and invited to leave town. Vendors of figurines of the local patron goddess, Artemis, didn't appreciate the possibility of Paul cutting into their business, apparently.
