The Kanamara Matsuri, or sometime referred to as the Festival of the Steel Phallus, is held on the first Sunday in April every year in Kawasaki (near Kawasaki-daishi station). Once frequented by prostitutes praying for protection against sexually transmitted diseases, today most people attending seem to be there for the obscurity of the festival and watch giant phallic shines being paraded through the streets by men in drag.
