Looks like a black phase example for the species.

Actually rather light warm and shiney brown for the region. Ours are often a fine pitchblack or got the looks of very old bitter choclate gone a bit grayish, as good as never a really good foxy orange. The name is still Red Squirrel. I guess it is a question of regional genetic selections, like who is not so well seen by enemies in certain habitats and such.
