A zoom lens ging to 300mm is a great help to make the landscape look nice from this high up vantage point.
This is an old drain, improved and straighened from a brook as it was used to win dry land for silvicultue in the early 19thth century, then altered again rather recently for controlled reflodding and preserving what remains of the bog. So a lot of the ponds and waterfeatures do not look natural at all at a wider angle but like the wild angular puzzle of a manmade floorplan during unintentional destructive high water.
This time birding was absolutely at it's least interesting in many visits, but the resident swan family set a nice recognizable focal point. for a strictly cropped landscape detail.
And suddenly it was a fairytale setting. -- just like the stinging nettle princess could be just hidden somewhere whilst her brothers all wait patiently in their swan form for their new coats.
