I have actually no idea about what's the significance.
Today the overlook on the old landslide site above the river loop is the corner point of a few running and mountain biking trails. Wether the cross was put there just for marking the dangerous edge and decorating the area near the bench with something edifying, or if way back when the landslide went down denuding the slope or later someone died at the edge and the cross was meant as a memory originally I can not find out anything about, all internet info google brings up is a lot repeating info on a mountain bike track named for the very overgrown lookout.
