We have a draught like the places around us that make the international headlines, but it is managable. So far however no really severe fires that went out of control as in the far south and north of Europe and no problems with water transportation to lifeestock with dramatic chopper pictures as inbetween the higher alpine ranges, but the public beach baths closing the water access when folk want them most, some of the cuter harbours can not be reached any more by the daytrip cruiser system of regular low keeled vessels, waterfalls go non-spectacular (and in the case of Schaffhausen just a disgusting soup of belated fish) , there are yellow unatractive public parks that get not watered any more also in the most touristic parts of towns, there are bottle retun issues at the brewery, agressive wasps taking over recycling stations, elderly caravan camper seeking more medical attention so the doctors got stress at the ER, and the smaler local headlines about how it is just awful and how it hurts the purses of the tourism industry and repute of the destination Lake Constance seem to take no end about stuff like this. The apple and grain farmer are not amused eiter.
The last 48 hours things changed however, some severe thunderstorms went through and now it is a tad less obscenely hot according to the thermometre but it is very damp for it.
Oh well. Other places got worse issues.

I don't think Europe has to fear seeing what happened to California happen to them..... That there is a climate change disaster -- 90% of reservoirs gone and drought that has dragged on for over 20yrs. And of course the wildfires that have decimated the western US for that same time..... If Europeans want to know what climate change --- 'cause at this point it's no longer just a drought --- looks like, they can check out the scorched western and southwestern US. No water, fires, regular wind events (including the phenomenon know as fire tornadoes) to spread the misery further, and all topped off with temperatures over 90˙F for at least 5mos. of the year and topping 100˙F for at least 3mos. of the year. Meanwhile, the southeastern US is drowning... It's always something ;)

I think Europe's predicament, as bad as it seems and as bad as it certainly will be for economies already on the brink, will be temporary. At least in terms of droughts and fires..... The change to high summer temps. is likely to stay. The damage us humans have caused to our planet definitely seems to be coming home to roost.....

Could be worse, it's true.... I can always be worse.... Looks at poor Hawaii.

Of course, having worse to compare to does nothing to diminish peoples' misery and/or losses. But the comparisons, unfortunate though they are, give people some small reason to be thankful.... Maybe even hopeful that these things, devastating as they appear to be, are temporary.... At least for now....

Well, we had enough bad fires in Europe this year, just none really close by. Ask the Greek, Spanish and Swedish people.

Germany had a few too up north, but smaler and much faster under control again... last week we had an ICE causing a spark going around a corner in a town somewhere near Bonn and torching a wall from the rail embankment up to a row of densely standing ecnomic homes because the weeds where so dry and there was obviously some respnsibility vacuum. The poor folks there have no houses now, some got seriously hurt or very sick from smoke. Not muchh different from the californian fire victims :o(
