Saint Nicholas / Sankt Nikolaus
The catholic church of the former Buchhorn is more or less a replique of itself. Sans the market around it, the choir end looks in the advent like there is nothing special at all, leave alone any season. / Die katholische Kirche der ehemaligen Stadt Buchhorn ist mehr oder weniger eine Kopie ihrer selbst. Ay the outside it is still quite pretty, rebuilt 1949 from only most of the tower and part of the choir still standing to its pre-worldwar apperance. But it must have been a lot nicer before 1689, when it had a slightly taller roof to cover a vaulted ceiling with a roof slant corresponding to the proportions of the slim pointy windows and a very pointy shingled tower roof. The coloured glazed tiles are a common style in southwest germany. In the middle ages it was barely affordable for super-rich higer nobility or important towns with many well off traders to have a cute little accent like this, a true power demonstration. But with historism meeting early industrial times suddenly comparably cheap tiles in almost any hue the customer could imagine became the rage to have on the church, the town hall, the city gate and any casual hobby-medievalists personal home or business main building. I am not sure but guess this lavish colourful rooftop with the elaborate corbie gables was originally a late 18th or early 19th century addition.
