Hofen was a very rich monastry and the church was almost new when it all fell to the protestant house of Wuerrtemberg. The King liked the location and infrastructure potential, decided to make the priory his own summer residence and the huge church annexed to it a bit unfitting for a family chapel he devided a bit through landscaping, creating a public alley to the main portal and made it the lutheran town church, leaving the other big church in old Buchhorn graciously to the many catholics of his new city. It has of course a patrocinium and official befitting church name, but it is usually refered to just as the Castle Church. After all it is stuck wall to wall to what is today the company seat of the still rather affluent Wuerttembergs and private home of their leader.
