The like the sedum, too, I see =) Pretty color contrasts between the flowers & butterfly.

It only sat very briefly in the Biting Stoncrop overlooking the boring flowerless Buxus before deciding on Alfalfa for the main course. :o)
Many people messed with the planting of that ramp leading up to the barns second level, and nature also did add its own.
The Biting Stoncrop is something by Karl's sister. She had huge amounts sitting on her garage's south side and just ripped out a few smal lumps to stuff them into the wall. By now it is one of the most prolific plants in there.

Here the "wild" stonecrop is a huge draw for butterflies.... As are the cultivated/hybrids types. The only butterflies I've noticed with no interest in stonecrops are the Monarchs.

The Biting Stonecrop is well visitited by clumsy critters with a very short proboshis like all kinds of massive diptera with a sweet tooth and also infested by variable flower spiders in yellow phase that can hide themselves perfectly in there. Purple blossom clusters on airy steems for which one needs a long mouth tool are likely a lot saver and more exclusive and I think this is why clever butterflies tend to opt for the Alfalfa when they get to choose directly side by side. It is just as popular as Summer Lilacs.
