Dactylorchis in the Shadow / Knabenkraut im Schatten

Not able to aproach it, it was still the closest to the shoulder of the drive, almost still in the brambles. Not fully sure of it's species / Leider unerreichbar fuer naehere Untersuchung der Spezies, war es doch das an naechsten stehende, fast an der Kante der Wegaufschuettung voller Brombeertriebe.

Gorgeous, rich color =) Likely Dactylorhiza majalis -- I see a hint of the tell-tale spotted leaves ...

There are several that can or must have spotted leafs, of which the one occuring in our area is D. maculata and those long lancetty little leaves up inside the tight inflorescence are typical for D. incarnata that likes hybridizing with both. So the typical orchid here is a D. incarnata X maculata to be very exact, and I guess this is what it is... of course I got no good look on individual blossoms and bottom leafs, so it all is not to ID for sure. I live here since 2004 and heared enough opinions on that matters by by park staff from Eriskirch and Wollmatingen all saying so -- and british orchid spotters online insisting that with a few spots on the leafs it has to be D. majalis..... ;o)

Sonja.... Then you would need a very detailed macro of the flowers to ID.....

Not even then Fizzgig, as I understood the guy who does the orchid walk from Radolfszell it would take lab tests costing money and destroying substance of plants to find out for sure which is genetically what. :o) Natural hybrids of Flesh-coloured and Spotted Marsh Orchids vary very highly in looks, some look more like one, some more like the other, a honest ID of a specimen depicted in situ by hobbyists has correctly to stop at genus level, only exlude parental species never recorded by the scientists for a site.
Of course this is not a nice fact to learn, we all want easy and exact ways to aquire correct names with our pretty flower pics. :o(

Sonja.... Ah... One of those.... Sometimes it's enough to know the family they belong to & just settle for enjoying their beauty & the challenge of capturing it in its natural surroundings ;)
