2004 Leeds Armouries
A trip to the Royal Armouries Leeds
was arranged for the RSA Liverpool branch members By Steve Brisk.

Attending were: Jim Carruthers, Alan Heritage, Ron Price, Henry Wynn, Frank Conlan, Steve Brisk and Joe Brougham. The day started with a quick ride up the M62 in a mini-bus provided by Henry Wyyn and ably driven by our Driver for the day Dave Nickson. Frank Conlan must have been 'Scrumping' last night as he provided a bag full of apples, we didn't have enough 'time' to brew up a Scrumpy.

On the itinerary for the day (amongst other attractions and stands) were 'interpretations' of:-

Moby Dick 1819, a whaler tells the story of the wreck of the 'Essex'.
Castillon 1453, an English Archer talked about the final battle of the 100 year war.
Falconry 15th century, hunting with 'birds of prey'.
Samurai, Weapons & Battle-dress armour.
Stamford bridge 1066, a survivor, recounting a battle which decided the future of England.
Medieval Joust 15th century, Military Skill at Arms with the sword and lance.
Border Reiver 1597, a Cumberland raider tells of Kinmont Willies rescue from Carlisle Castle.
Ned Kelly 1880, the rise and fall of the 'iron outlaw'.
Tiger Hunt 1905, last but not least a very memorable interpretation of the tiger hunt in India. (The Tiger Hunt was performed by a fellow Scouser who informed us she was from the Huyton area in Liverpool).

The day was a very enjoyable day out and our thanks must go to the Royal Armouries Leeds for their hospitality. We will not forget one of the horses; aptly named "Messenger". Who during the jousting competition became a little frisky this consequently cost him the competition; maybe it was because he was in the company of so many ex-professional "Messengers"...

Yet another good time was had by all.
