2004 Mersey Blues Cruise
As the 60s Cruise was such a success another cruise was inevitable...
A Mersey Ferries Blues Cruise was arranged by Bill Cookson for the RSA Liverpool branch members on The evening of the Friday 22nd October 2004 was very dark, windswept and wet. Three brave souls (Steve Brisk, Bill Cookson and Henry Wynn) along with wives and friends from the Liverpool branch decided to brave the elements and climbed aboard the MV (Mersey Vessel) Royal Daffodil for a Blues Cruise. The Cruise was kindly arranged by Bill Cookson. The weather didn't dampen our spirits as the other spirits in the bar soon took over and the weather out on deck became history. That was until we had to disembark. The upper saloon was engulfed by the very heart warming musical tones and songs from Connie Lush and Blues Shouter, (Terry Harris on Bass, John Lewis on Guitar & Carl Woodward on Drums). Connie Lush is widely recognised as one of the best blues singers in the UK. She has been voted Best UK Blues Female Vocalist for five separate years. All the performers I am happy to report are 'Scousers' and hail from our very own Liverpool. During a very short R&R (for the performers) there followed a lightning tour of the ferry to meet the able bodied crew and have a look at the Royal Daffodils Bridge and Engine rooms; Upper Saloon, Lucy and Kay Lower Saloon, Becky and Anna Deck Hands, Pat and Mick Engine Room, Engineer Jim Bridge, Mate, Ray Barker, Captain, Derek Pinton Our thanks to the Mersey Ferries, and a special thank you to Jim the Engineer for the guided tour. Yet another good time was had by all.
