Check the full res version, shrinked versions may introduce some nasty moiré effects in the compound eyes. I decided to go for a 50% version of the original image which seems fine in terms of moiré. I couldn't get a moiré-free result when trying to convert this to monitor friendly resolutions, has anyone got suggestions how to circumvent moiré problems?

No suggestions...
But great eyes. Wow.
Nice symmetry too.

i know how to deal with this effect: don't shoot any small structures ;)

Anyway thanks to all of you!

The high-frequency (short wavelength) contrast changes in the eye confuse the Bayer algorithm. Shooting at a higher degree of magnification should help with the moire. For example, add a close-up lens or extension tube. Or get a Foveon camera :-)

Amazing image

@Perkin-warbeck: That shot was nowhere near 1:1 magnification, it was an intentional compositional decision to embed this fly in a sea of bokehlicious flower colors :)
@maf04: Thanks!

The current resolution is just right. If you make the photo smaller, you can't see the really important details.
Sharpness at the point (on the eyes). Great photo :)

looks like a chrome plate between the eyes! Great capture!

Fantastic picture and composition, very well done.

I drool whenever you post pictures with this lens...

The Moire is just a hint to look at the hi-res version.

[I often get nasty anti-aliasing jaggies at the size 23 likes]

Otherwise, @crazyrayman has it right!
