This "unreal" HDR works better for me because it actually looks like a painting or an etching, and not like a photograph at all. So perhaps I should say that I like HDR when it enhances the realism, or when it blows the realism away completely as it's done here. This looks almost like a background in a Superman cartoon!

You're right about the painting/comic thing. A guy at macrumors.com called Valdore makes some REALLY great HDRs! :-)
