The mystery is: two hours later I returned to get a better picture, and there was no trace of Mr. -- actually a small spider, or his web. I'm wondering it the Hummers also saw him and had breakfast ! At least he didn't get me for a partial meal. It was also interesting, the web was just swaying in space -- seemingly attached to nothing..r

Cool!

Some orb web spiders actually clean up in the late morning before they go to hide for siesta. They eat the thread material before it gets hot outside, then hours later they rise and shine and make an all new net for the evening hunt. Netting is metabolical costly so it is absorbed and recycled. So I hope your little buddy is fine!
