A blast from the past Marvin. Always good to see these old beauties. Looks like with so many visitors it is difficult to get up close to this when it is due to erupt. Great capture.

I can assure you, it's as close as you want to get ! Yes it does bring back many memories. One of our great National Parks.

I don't suppose there's a sulphorous whiff about the place but I wonder? If not, why not? - Calderas around the world always seem to have it or so it seems if we watched Discovery Channel programmes, and we did! Well anyway before about 2005 after which they became No more discovery unless you like re-constructing power trucks and bikes.

Andy, no to knowledge, don't remember any. However other , and there are many such blow holes, and are sulphorous, bublings and boiling pots that give off a foul smell. Old Faithful comes out very hot, and sometimes the wind can blow it onto the viewers.
