Himeji 11/4
What is there to do in Himeji but go to Himeji Castle? It's the oldest standing castle in Japan. The only one to survive natural disasters and WWII bombings. So it is considered the best castle in all Japan. As it is between Okayama and Kobe, we decided to stop by on out way home on Saturday.

The castle is really amazing. First of all, it's quite big compared to Okayama's Ujo. It is probably the same size as Osaka-jo, but because its over 400 years old it seems even more impressive.

The grounds are quite large as well, and the fall colors were really making it beautiful for our visit. It is the only Japanese castle we've payed to enter, because it's the oldest and most revered of them all. And it was well worth it. It's fascinating to see the inside of a samurai lord's home, and the view from the top is beautiful. It would seem near impossible to storm the place with any success, which may be why it still stand today.

A highly recommended trip!
