Awww, cute painted critters!

With ravens and line drawing carricatures I associate of course the late Paul Flora but I guess where you live he is totally unknown....

Hi Sonja,

I din't knew Mr Paul Flora, but I'm not an Art connoisseur.

Ravens are the symbol of the city of Leiria.

This ones were painted by school students.

Ah, okay. We got zeppelins of epoxy resin standing in our city, and the neighboring town got pigs, also painted by little kids, local fine artists or or businesowners themselves, other cities got storks, rhinos, moose, pears..... The shops, businesses and public buildings got them all in bland white , and after the decorating there was a rating with prices and a walk created from object to object. There was a time about a decade ago the cities all did such things, as fund raisers or just to draw people into downtown. Now there are parts of the exponates still all over but only few are considered valuable fine art.

In Gemany knowing Flora was in his time rather normal, his stuff was not fine art per se, rather frequently in the comic pages of newspapers and magazines, his drawings where about as well known as the international syndicated strips, but he died a few years ago. I was always amused by the birds and people looking a bit like what people sketch absentminded on the note cube while on the phone.
